Firefighters For Christ at World Firefighters Games in Liverpool
For ten days from 24th August to 2nd September the tenth world firefighters’ Games came to Liverpool, the European Capital of Culture 2008, and members of Firefighters for Christ were right at the centre of the Chaplaincy Team formed for the Liverpool Games. The team was co-ordinated by Bill Sanders, Chaplain and part time firefighter for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and included Gerald Titmus and colleagues from Northern Ireland Firefighters For Christ and Paul and Sherri Steusel representing the U.S.A.
Together with local and national chaplains, the Gideons organisation and representatives of local churches, the FFC team gave away over 1,000 Firefighter and Gideon New Testaments in many different languages as well as C.D.’s and pamphlets promoting the work of FFC. Whole teams of contestants asked to be presented with Bibles and many volunteers and Echo Arena staff had Bibles given to them. Many friendships were made, in great part through Gerald Titmus and Paul Steusel. Paul, as usual, brought a number of medals back home.
We see him in the photograph being presented with one of them. We look forward together with the many friends and partnerships established for the future, to being involved in both the Firefighters and Police and Firefighters Games, in South Korea, Canada, U.S.A. and Northern Ireland in the years up to and including 2013.
