Prayers For Our Prodigal Children
Dear Firefighters For Christ,
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (3 John 1:4) As Christian parents, isn’t this our heart’s cry? Our deepest desire is for our children to experience the perfect love of God through Jesus Christ and to know the joy of their salvation by walking in obedience to His Word.
One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is to intercede on their behalf. God’s Word never returns void, and as we pray His Word into their life, we can be assured that we are praying according to His will. (Isaiah 55:11)
Here are examples of scripture based prayers for your children. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how to pray specifically for each child — him or her. (Romans 8:26)
Lord, I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those you have chosen to be yours. (2 Timothy 2:10)
Remove the veil from _____’s eyes so that he can see the light of the gospel. Shine your light in his heart to give him the light of the knowledge of your glory in the face of Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:4-6)
Put people in _____’s life that will gently instruct him; and grant him repentance leading to knowledge of the truth. Cause _____ to come to his senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken him captive to do his will. (2 Timothy 2:25-26)
May he allow You, Lord Jesus to set him free. Loose the chains of all his anxieties, fears, curses and addictions. May he be liberated from Satan’s powerful strongholds in his life and instead live in freedom and victory that only You can give him. (Luke 4:18)
May he see the foolishness of continuing to live in the misery he is experiencing. You have such a better plan for him. May he have courage to choose to trust You, to turn from all that has kept him captive, to believe that the path you have for him is good, even when it is hard, and that there is joy and purpose and meaning in Your way for him. (Joshua 1:9)
Open _____’s eyes and turn him from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that he may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are set apart by faith in Christ. (Acts 26:18)
I pray that _____ would confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and that he would believe in his heart that you have raised Christ from the dead. Cause _____ to call on your name, Lord, and save him. (Romans 10:9,13)
Put a new spirit in _____. Remove his heart of stone and give him a heart of flesh. Cause _____ to follow your decrees and keep your laws. Let him know that he belongs to you, and that you are his God. (Ezekiel 11:19)
I pray _____ would put his trust in You and never be shaken. (Psalm 125:1)
I pray that _____, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses all understanding, that _____ may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:18-19)
