FFC Chapters: The Heart of the Ministry

No matter where in the world you meet as a chapter whether it's face to face or virtually the heart of this ministry are our regional, local and virtual chapters. The core of any chapter is built on relationship, with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and those in your chapter.

Matthew 28:18-20 NIV

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

We are instructed to make disciples (a follower of Jesus), to model Christ, by our words and actions, to live our lives worthy of the call placed upon it. Whether you realise it or not, whether intensional or not, you are discipling. The question is what type of Jesus are you modelling. The intentionality of discipling is doing life together with purpose, to be more like Jesus.
Below is a list of resources that can be used in a Chapter setting, for discipling and building relationships. For more information about or advice on how to best utilise the materials, complete the contact form below.

As a Christian there is an expectation you know  how to have  a quiet time. Unfortunately the majority of us have never been shown or trained in this skill. I have used this material to teach this skill and develop men into men of God. Great material for small groups or one on one. This material is designed to be intensional about developing leaders in your group who can go on to lead others through this material.
Walking with God, marriage, raising children, money, sex, work, going through hard times and making your life count. The journey of life!!

I have just recently finished the first book in the EMAW series and am starting the second now.

I was recommended to this series after confiding to a brother-in-Christ that I was struggling to commit myself to having a quiet time with God on a daily basis. That brother recommended EMAW to me, and I joined a small group for the series. I can honestly say it has been a game changer for me personally. Before, I did not understand what a quiet time with God really looked like.  I had no system in place whereby I could take a verse and start to dissect it and look at it in terms of how it was applicable to me as a Christian.  This series has given me a methodical approach to understanding what I am reading and applying it practically to my life.  Not only that, but it has given me a way to structure my quiet time in a way that benefits me greatly and has made my quiet time a time to look forward to and a time that excites me.  My relationship with God is closer than it has been for years.

The second book in the series is on "Marriage and Raising Children" and I am excited to see what I can learn and apply to my life from this study.
I highly recommend this series, especially to new believers, but also to Christians who (like me) find it hard to make time for a daily time of devotion to really spend time developing their relationship with God.

This series will transform your time of devotion from saying a half-hearted prayer and reading through a few verses;  to spending quality time with God each day and building on a proper love-relationship.

The EMAW study is a great foundation for the new believer as well as the more seasoned Christian. The format for devotions Keying on the study of God’s Word, meditating, memorizing, and applying it to everyday life. The weekly study questions are thought provoking and draw out participation from the group. Men hold each other accountable for Weekly devotions, memory verses and study guide questions. This was a great resource and I gained valuable tools for my journey with Christ.

Every Man a Warrior is a comprehensive discipleship and leadership training course designed to prepare men to fight and win in the areas of life that matter most;  Marriage, Raising Children, Money, Sex, Work, Hard Times, and Making Your Life Count. The foundation of all of this is a developing a love relationship with God. The entire first book
(9 weeks) focuses on the fundamentals of having a quiet time with God. Once this life-changing habit is firmly established, God begins to speak into a man’s heart. I have been a Christian for nearly thirty years. I have been in church most of this time hearing solid biblical teaching. However, somehow this is the first actual training I have received on how to have a quiet time with God. It has changed my heart in such a profound way. What I once viewed as a chore or a checkbox in my schedule I now view as my most important appointment of each day. Nothing could ever replace intimate communion with my Heavenly Father. This skill is taught in the context of a small group. There is a huge benefit from taking this journey with brothers in Christ who pull together to produce accountability and momentum. Scripture memory is part of Every Man a Warrior. You are expected to be intentional and do the work. It is not a casual, ‘show up and cruise through’ endeavor. You have to be prepared to do the work. But you can expect spiritual growth as God’s word goes from your head to your heart where all life’s important decisions are made.

The Wild at Heart Series

This new film series features the teaching of John Eldredge and the stories of men pursuing their warrior hearts through God's invitation of battle, adventure, and beauty.

I have used a slightly different version of this material many times. This is life transforming in your personal relationship with your Heavenly Father.
This revised format is great for large, small and virtual groups. Watch the video then split into small groups of approx six to allow everyone an opportunity to partake.

Over several months during this past summer our small group went through the Wild at Heart material based on the book by John Eldridge. This was truly a journey into the heart for the six men in our group. So much of the way we think, act, and decide as Christian men is determined by how we understand our own heart. Solomon wrote, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”1.  This program went deeper than the typical bible study in that it involved the uncovering of old wounds and allowing God to access them. Fortunately for us, God is a Wonderful Counselor and The Great Physician. He alone has the power, wisdom and love to meet each person in their place of need. Another very important aspect of Wild at Heart is in the discovery of your true identity. Life’s ups and downs can give you a pretty bleak picture of who you are as a man. One of the most powerful writing exercises I have ever done was drawn from the Wild at Heart material. I was asked to sit down and write out on two separate pages; 1. How do you think God views you? And 2. “God, how do You view me?” I have read through God’s version over and over again. It is one of my most important ‘letters from God.’ It has allowed me to see myself as God sees me and not through the eyes of past failures or wounds. This is a revolutionary truth in the heart of a man. Once you understand your true identity, you approach every relationship differently. When you’ve heard God say to you, “You are my son, whom I love.”, everything changes! We are created in God’s image. He put in man a masculine heart. “I’ve run in the path of Your commands because You have set my heart free.”2.

This study was my first, as a member of FFC (Northern Ireland Chapter)

Not only was this a different way to get to understand and know God than I had encountered before in my walk as a Christian, but in a way I had never experienced, I was also presented with the opportunity to learn so much about myself.  Throughout the lessons in this book and the videos, I was able to identify some of the wounds that I have been scarred from and I was able to address them in a way that allowed me to forgive those responsible and to begin the process of healing and rebuilding that was required in order for me to move on and grow as a Christian.

This book and videos will give you a better understanding of what a Christian man should look like in everyday life.  It will help you to understand that as a Christian, your identity is in Christ  and your role is to train for and be ready to fight our battles. It will also give you a better insight into the tactics our enemy uses against us which enables us to prepare ourselves against these attacks.  This study was so beneficial and transformational for me and I thoroughly recommend it.
Rick Goulet FFC San Diego
I was challenged to love God and pursue Him (Jer. 29:13). God wants to be the priority in our lives not the afterthought
Eldridge encouraged me to acknowledge my wounds and recognize my brokenness. To be truly honest with myself and God. To allow the Father to address and heal my brokenness.

Conquer Series

The Conquer Series was created by KingdomWorks Studios, in partnership with Pure Desire and featuring Dr. Ted Roberts, and has been instrumental in raising awareness to the detrimental effects of sexual addiction. For many men, it was the on-ramp that led them to a Pure Desire Seven Pillars of Freedom group, where they discovered lasting change and healing.
This format is great for large, small and virtual groups. Watch the video then split into small groups of approx six to allow everyone an opportunity to partake.

I have lead several groups through this excellent material. This is ideal training for us all, to be aware of addiction (any addiction) the damage it does and how to be free in Jesus.

CONQUER SERIES: The Conquer Series is about freedom from bondage. One of the most difficult confessions a man can make is; “I am in bondage to sexual sin.” The reason it is so difficult is that there is a tremendous amount a shame associated with this particular sin. What the world winks at, Jesus weeps over. Holiness is God’s standard for every one of his children. Every distorted view of sex that is different from God’s beautiful, perfect design for it is sin. Christian men know this very well. For most men, pornography was not something they ever chose but rather unwisely did not avoid. Satan offered the bait to trap them in a repeating cycle of sin, shame, repent and repeat. Each time they promise themselves and God that they will never return to their folly. This seemingly inescapable trap typically leaves the well-meaning Christian feeling trapped and isolated.  The Conquer Series takes a different approach to helping men get free. Trying harder to escape does not work when the problem is like a noose around your neck. The Conquer Series identifies the three strands of the noose and provides the tools and knowledge cut each strand while building accountability, healing from wounds, rejecting the lies the enemy has inserted in our deepest wounds. Standing on the truth of God’s Word is powerful. If the son has set you free, you are free indeed.1.
The last element of this material is perhaps the most exciting. God has disarmed the enemy and given men an incredible tool to help set others free.  After going through this course, men can make a new confession. “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”2.

2. Romans 8:38 NIV

Code Life

The Code is a fantastic twelve-point honour code manual for practical Christian living. Reading it could radically change your life! A rule of life for men that helps them to stay gripped and focused on living a full on, un-compromised Jesus centred life, in company with others. Original material from Christian Vision for Men (CVM) used with their permission. https://codelife.org/#code

We have used this material through CVM Ireland over zoom with a group of 50 - 60 people. Each Code presented by a speaker, 10 - 15 minutes, then split into breakout rooms (recommend groups of around six to allow everyone to partake) for discussion and prayer. Great material to encourage us to live a life worthy of the call place upon us.

Firefighters for Christ, Orange County Chapter with the support and assistance from Christian Vision for Men (CVM), Ireland and Firefighters for Christ Northern Ireland Chapter are utilizing the 12 study Codelife Series also known as Fight Club.  The 12 rounds that make up this fight are to support, and provide tools for active and retired members fighting for what matters most (wife, family, integrity, spiritual warfare, foundation and devotion that are just a few examples).   The support provided in these rounds are to move one from connection to a relationship!  We will all be in your corner as you learn to speak strength and wisdom to fight for what matters most, but you must be in the fight and learn from each round as we unlock the code for you!  Share what you learn in each round and coach, support and come alongside all those fighting for what matters most in their lives.  Our goal is to disciple men who will go on to disciple men who will go on to disciple men.

CODE LIFE: I have just completed a 12-week series geared at getting men back into God’s Word. Through the eyes of a different presenter each week, we looked at various aspects of the life of Jesus Christ in order to re-discover the truest form of masculinity. The best way I can describe Code Life is: It is like a mid-week re-charge for your spiritual life. Your battery may be low going in. But you come out feeling re-charged by God’s Word and the inspiration of your brothers in Christ. The presentation on each of the 12 Codes is only about 15 minutes followed by break-out sessions (4-6 men/ 40 minutes to discuss and pray together). We wrap up by hearing from a couple of guys from the larger group and a closing prayer.  You wouldn’t expect your mobile phone to make it through the week without charging it. Plug your heart into the power of the God’s Word and some great fellowship for an hour a week. You won’t regret it!

This is an outstanding series that equips the man of God for life’s daily battle.
Jesus our Captain, Brother, Rescuer, and friend is the first Code. What a great encouragement and foundation. The study picks up momentum from there.
The 12 topics (Codes) are practical, relevant, and thought provoking. They will challenge the man of God to be His ambassadors.

It's easy to follow design,  simple and straight forward, making it perfect for new believes but full of biblical wisdom guiding even mature disciples.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Often times on FFC missions trips, many are saved, so we’re excited to use it as a tool to leave with them to help them study their bibles, become a follower of Jesus (Disciple) and grow in faith.
You can read through this book or use it with the video series provided to guide you through the 24 sessions⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pray about how you can use it while you “go forth and make disciple of all nations” ⠀
Fellow Chapter Leaders, here are a few of our Chapter's devotions following Firefighters For Christ Core Values.  These simple lesson plans are easy to follow and created good discussion during our meeting.   The devotion starts with the Theme and the supporting Scripture with a reference.  There are a few discussion questions and supporting information for the Chapter Leader to review beforehand.  We enjoyed reviewing the Core Values of Firefighters For Christ and encouraging firefighters to live their lives for Jesus Christ.

The Bible Project

The Bible Project is a wonderful way to give a different addition to your normal bible study.  The Bible Project adds animation to God's Word as it goes through bible passages and themes.  Each video is about 5 mins long and full of information to discuss the bible verses.  We have used this program at our church on Sunday to give some insight into the verses we were going to study that day.
This program is available in many languages and free to use.

Try it out and see how you can use it at your Chapter meeting.
